oh my (deep breath)

So, if you've known me for long at all, you've probably heard me mention that "someday, we want to adopt". Well...I think "someday" has arrived!

My hubby told me today, that he's always had a desire to adopt, for as long as he can remember. For me...it was when we went to Nepal in 2001 that God put it into our hearts that someday, we were to bring a child into our world through adoption, and ever since, it's been a given. Now, in my little dream world plan, we'd have our few babies (biologically) and then adopt the last one. More and more, it's making sense that we'd take the adoption step sooner, rather than later.

So, after some inspiration to look into it, and the more we're learning, it's making more and more sense to get the ball rolling. We attended and seminar tonight, which was our first step in saying we're ready to go down this road. We went to All God's Children International, and learned about the process, asked loads of questions, and met a family who adopted a little guy from Ethiopia. He was so stinking adorable, I had wet eyes hearing about their journey and seeing how much they loved that little man. We both felt a big peace about the whole thing, and I think we're ready to dive into this thing. We have lots of praying to do, thinking, talking...my head is swimming with what if's. We have no idea how it will all come together, or what it will look like in the end, but are so excited to see God's plan for our family move into the next chapter. HOLY MOLY. How the heck am I supposed to go to sleep, now? I just watched a DVD full of little orphan faces. Should've saved that for the morning! There will definitely be more to come on this topic...

wow wow wow wow wow!!! THIS IS SO EXCITING!!!! Count on my prayers with/for you guys!

Not sure if you know this about my family, but my grandparents (paternal) were HUGE in the foster parenting arena - in fact, my Gram was on the committee that helped write most of the original foster parenting rules/regulations (laws?) in the state of Oregon. Most of my aunts/uncles on that side of my family are foster kids (back then, it was the law that if you tried to adopt as a Foster parent, the child would be removed from your home - so Gram and Grampa just kept all their fosters when they could!)

Anyhow, adoption has always been near/dear to my heart as a result :) Can't wait for you to keep us all posted! And do you still consider looking into Nepalese adoption? I know it is very difficult (impossible, maybe?) - but just wondered where you're at with that :)

We sure have considered Nepal...the agency (all God's children) has a Nepal program, which is currently closed for adoption. It's supposed to be reopening in about 60 days. It has been closed for some "revamping" of the laws, criteria, etc. (I believe all good changes). It's one of the more expensive countries to adopt from, so that may be our deciding factor...we're pretty open at this point to where God will take us. Right now, I'm leaning towards Ethiopia, for a couple reasons...It seems to be the easiest process wise, it's the least expensive, and there is many folks adopting from there around here, and I love the idea of having some local community going through the same thing as we are (adopting/raising a child). We'll see.

I'm so excited for you. I got chills as I was reading. I've thought that adoption might be in our future as well. Last year we went to a Christian Family adoption banquet. I can't remember the exact name of the organization, but they help Christian families go through the adoption process and even help with finances if needed. So many people financially support the organization knowing that they themselves aren't ready to adopt but want to financially support people who do. I thought it was pretty cool.

The thing that keeps going through my mind is if I walked past a room filled with children who had no home or family how could I ever just keep walking? Right now It's easy for us to ignore because we don't visually see all the kids that need homes.

I'm really excited to see where this is going to lead and to see a new little child in your family!!

Eryn! I few more things... we've looked into adoption in Nepal and you have to be infertal and over 30. Unless something has changed in the last year you can let me know! Also, have you heard this sermon from John Piper on adoption... I love it! http://www.desiringgod.org/ResourceLibrary/Sermons/ByDate/2004/175_Predestined_for_Adoption_to_the_Praise_of_His_Glory/
